UK public want to see more Paralympic sport A recent survey shows 69 per cent of the UK public would like to see more media coverage of Paralympic sport. 93 per cent of those polled believe Paralympic athletes are good role models for young people. 1st May 2008 Ever fancied sailing? The sailing events for the 2012 Olympics will be held at Weymouth and Portland's Sailing Academy, and ever since interest in sailing in Dorset has grown. ISG InteriorExterior won the contract, meaning UK firms are now contracted to build the three major sporting venues in the Olympic Park. 8th May 2008 Olympic Park readied for 'big build' Nearly all of the 2.5 sq km Olympic Park site has now been tested for harmful materials in preparation for the start of construction.
9th May 2008 Planning confirmed for Aquatics Centre Local people, faith groups, community groups and swimming clubs were all consulted on the detailed plans, before planning permission was granted for the Aquatics Centre.
14th May 2008 Olympic Park cabling project completed The underground cabling that will allow powerlines to move into tunnels under the Olympic Park has been completed. It will mean more than 50 overhead pylons can be taken down across the Park. 15th May 2008 Search starts for contractor to build Rowing venue The Eton College Rowing Centre, at Dorney Lake, will host Flatwater Canoeing and Kayak as well as the Rowing events during the Games. The 2,200m course has a separate return lane, recently constructed to international standards. 16th May 2008 Victorian cobbled street discovered on Olympic Park A cobbled street thought to be over 150 years old has been found by archaeologists on the site of the London 2012 VeloPark.
The area is being investigated because it is the site of a Knights Templar water mill built between 1185 and 1278. 19th May 2008 Sports success (Audio) Discussion on how good are we as a nation at sport on the international stage and whether it really does matter.

Among those being promoted at this year's event in Beijing, are the Nottingham Tennis Centre and the National Water Sports Centre. 28th May 2008 Potential Pre-Games Training facilities for Paralympic Games announced Over 170 sporting facilities from around the UK will feature in London 2012's Pre-Games Training Camp Guide for Paralympic sports. 28th May 2008 Materials contract awarded for Olympic Park The contract to provide materials such as sand, gravel, crushed stone and recycled concrete needed for the construction of venues and infrastructure in the Olympic Park has been awarded. 28th May 2008 Olympics to use uni sport centre The University of the West of England is to be included in the pre-games training camp guide for the 2012 Olympics for Paralympics sports.
